Let It Snow! In Texas?!?

Last week we received a small snow shower. This hasn't happend down here in 4 years and even then, it wasn't enough to make a snowball let alone a snowman. But here it was...giant, beautiful, wet snowflakes falling in Baytown, Texas.
When it first began, Chad and I were getting a good chuckle out of all of our neighbors rushing outside to play. They didn't have gloves or hats or boots and, yet, many were spread eagle in the middle of the road making snow angels. It just doesn't happen down here!

Our dog is about 5 years old so she may or may not have been alive during the last dusting that hit this area. She didn't quite know what to do. She kept going in and out of her doggy door. I think she was hesitant to pee, but finally got up the gumption to just go and get it done. She was so cute with all of the white snow on her black back when she came back inside. Even her stuffed animal got to play in the fluff.

We had a delayed start for school the next day. There were more than 50 wrecks on the main highway according to our local newspaper. I was already on my way to school before I found out we were having a delayed start -- I just assumed we'd have school! We only got about 2 inches. Driving apparently is a major issue in places where you don't get snow very often. There were lights and sirens and cars tipped over all over the place.

Once my kids did get to school, the snow had already begun to melt, but they were SO excited. We had to spend the first hour of the day just talking about it and what they did and how cool it all was. They REALLY wanted me to take them outside to play in the last bits before it all melted away, but teachers weren't allowed to take them out. Mainly, because the kids did not have appropriate weather gear and they would have ended up soggy, muddy messes.

So, it was lovely to get a small taste of home. I do miss that first snow of every winter. Maybe I'll get to see a real snow when we visit this Christmas.

Chad, Kicker and I wish all of you and your families a blessed holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

You have gotten more snow than Springfield! I'm jealous!! Stinks you had to have a delayed start instead of a full-day out. :)

I have a lab/german shepherd mix and when it snows she loves to run! It must make her feel powerful or something to have the snow kicking up at her heels.
