We're finally back from our marathon Christmas tour across the country. It was, I think, the best Christmas in a long time. It might also be the last time we try to travel everywhere and see everyone all at once. Things are going to be a little trickier with an infant next year!
Every year it has become tradition for me to get together with my girlfriends (AKA "The Mommas") while in my hometown. Somehow, in spite of the madness of the holidays, we always seem to manage to find a time to say "hello" and share a few stories.
Let me tell you a little about these girls. While I was partying with my now husband, hitting the bars and living the single life, these girls were married, settled, and raising (extremely cute) kids. Now that I have finally joined to ranks of settled and joined the mommas covenant, they are ready to kick back and have a few drinks themselves. I'm just a little late to hit the scene...that's all.
While eating at my favorite Mexican restaurant enjoying daiquiris, margaritas and ice water, the girls were more than willing to share from their ginormous knowledge banks of stories, advice, and wisdom having "been there and done that." Some of the advice sent me into freak-out mode (it isn't hard to do these days) but it was ALL good stuff. I think my favorite piece of advice was to "start reading the 'what to do during the first year' books NOW because it's too late once the baby is here." I have been dutifully reading my Your Pregnancy Week by Week book. After that conversation I immediately cracked open the What to Expect During the First Year I had received for Christmas and, boy, am I glad I did. I have so many dog-eared pages in the first chapter! It really helped me make a list of questions for the next dr. visit as well: Who does the circumcision? What if my pediatrician isn't affiliated with the hospital? And don't even get me started on the breast feeding questions.
So, this post is dedicated to "The Mommas". Thanks for your friendship, advice, and for the good times. I look forward to many more! Who knows, maybe there will come a time when we can ALL sit down and have a drink together. :0) Happy New Year!
