From Alien to Baby

So, all is going really well in babyland. I had my weekly ultrasound yesterday and the little alien that has been sucking the life out of me for the past 2 months actually looks like...a baby! It is the sweetest little baby ultrasound I've ever seen. The little guy even wiggled during the viewing. He was showing off. I don't know if you'll be able to tell, but I swear I can see the little eyes and nose along with the arms, legs, torso, etc. His heart beat was 171 bpm. That no longer appears to be a concern!
They say every mom bonds with the baby inside at different times ("they" being the authors of my Your Pregnancy Week byWeek book). I was feeling some guilt because I hadn't totally bonded with the little guy. Of course, I would be devastated if anything happened. I think I've just felt like a "host" (as my dear husband fondly refers to me...I think it's a Star Trek thing) up to this point. My body has been used to the max. The nausea, fatigue, headaches, etc. BUT, something changed with this last ultrasound. I'm feeling better most days and I think I'm finally starting to feel like a mom.

The doc said everything looked so good that I didn't have to come back for another 2 weeks (instead of 1) which was exciting. Unfortunately, it will be my last visit with him. They release you to a regular Ob Gyn at 10-12 weeks. I'm feeling sad about that. Yet, it's going to be nice to just be a normal pregnant person rather than a special case! I got a good referral to a new doctor from my nurse, so hopefully that all works out.

I'm off to eat. Again. This is fun!!

You do know that Chad's favorite childhood movie was Alien? He does have a vivid imagination and all. The alien most definitely looks like a human baby to me though - lol.
