Ma and Pa Haynes visited last week. It had been quite a while since we'd gotten together. We started our week off with all of the energy and spirit in the world.
On Monday, we went to the beach. It just seems like you just have to go ahead and do that first. So, we were there about an hour before I got stung by a stingray. We ended up in urgent care down in Galveston where I received x-rays, a tetanus shot and some nasty antibiotics to prevent infection. We went to Hooters after the whole ordeal. Somehow crab legs and beer made it all seem worth it.
On Tuesday, we went for a drive along the coast of Louisiana. I had never been to LA. We searched and searched the swamp lands the whole time for a gator. Finally, near the end of our trip and after a couple of hours in the car Chad spotted one! (Another first for me.)
He worked his way closer to us out of curiosity as we stared at him from the car. Then, he won the staring contest...we were moving on to the casino.
We stopped in Lake Charles, LA, at the Isle of Capris casino. The smoke was overwhelming at first, but as the day wore on I stopped noticing. I had no idea what I was doing so Emie and I played the slots for a while. I was not successful. I found Chad bellied up to a $10 black jack table. He was entertaining the whole table (call girls and all!) with his jokes and banter. I watched for a good while before one of the call girls asked me why I wasn't playing. She was persuasive. I decided to try and...what do you know? You don't have to totally know what you're doing to win some money. Between us Chad and I walked out with an extra $300 in hand. Not bad for the first time! It was around 2 a.m. when we got home and we were exhausted.
On Wednesday, we went to Old Town Spring (another first). It's a very charming spot with a lot of quaint little specialty shops. I won't mention dinner. It wasn't good, but the company was and that's all that matters.
All in all it was a great visit. I'll try to be more entertaining in the next post. I feel like I've just given a current-day version of the slide show presentation of our vacation. Hee! Until the next adventure...
